Tell me a little bit about yourself and your background prior to joining SkillBank.
Prior to SkillBank, I was bouncing from job to job. I worked at the post office for a while and then I worked in construction. I didn’t get any fulfillment or satisfaction from any of these jobs.
What sparked your interest in digital marketing/paid media? Why did you choose to pursue a career in digital marketing?
A close family member of mine got into the digital marketing industry a few years ago and speaking to them about how much they enjoyed their role sparked my interest in the digital marketing space. Once I joined SkillBank, I knew my professional growth would be accelerated and I would be in a career that I enjoyed.
How would you describe your experience with the Paid Media course?
SkillBank equipped me with the knowledge to be employed full-time in a digital marketing role. From everything to working with the Career Coach in preparing for my interviews to learning all the fundamental elements of Paid Media from the instructors, it all played a part in getting me to where I am now. I established a great foundation for marketing and I am continuing to use it on a daily basis in my role.
Since the boot camp is so fast-paced, I found it difficult at time to keep up at times. One thing I wish I would’ve done more, and I am finding a lot of success in doing that now is asking more questions and reaching out to my instructors more and getting more clarification on material that was covered.
How are you applying the skills you’ve learned at SkillBank?
When I was interviewing for digital marketing/paid media roles, I was asked technical marketing questions that I was prepared to answer because the course thoroughly everything I needed to know to be successful in a Paid Media role. As a Paid Search Associate, I work with Clickthrough-Rates, Cost-Per-Clicks, ROAS and conduct A/B testing, manage campaign budgets, and many more concepts and strategies that I learned in the course. I am consistently using what I learned on a daily basis and continuing to learn more and more each day.
What advice do you have for prospective fellows who want to join SkillBank?
It may seem impossible at times but with consistency and showing up every day. SkillBank provides you with the tools and resources so you should leverage them all much as you can. You’re probably going to have a lot of questions because there is a lot of information to absorb, so don’t be afraid to ask for support when you need it.
